Laboratory testing fails in practice for boring reasons: the wrong samples sent, the wrong standard requested, the report nobody knows how to read. CGF’s testing service is built around removing those failures. We do not run a laboratory ourselves — the analysis is performed by accredited third-party laboratories — but we own everything on either side of it: deciding what to test, drawing the samples properly, and making the results legible.
Step by step: from regulation to report
- Define the target. You name the product and the market it ships to; the coordinator then maps the regulations that actually apply — chemical restrictions, safety standards, labelling rules — instead of selling a generic package.
- Fix the schedule and the fee. Each test is listed with its method, turnaround and cost as a fixed-fee quote, agreed before anything moves.
- Draw the samples correctly. Where results must represent a shipment, a CGF inspector pulls the required units at random from bulk production, seals and documents them. Samples that “happen” to be the factory’s best pieces make every downstream number meaningless.
- Submit and chase. Samples go to the accredited partner laboratory with a documented chain of custody; we track progress against the quoted turnaround so the calendar does not drift.
- Deliver and explain. The laboratory’s PDF report reaches you together with a plain-English summary: what passed, what failed, and what to do next if something failed.
How to read the test report you get back
- Sample identity. The report’s sample photos and identifiers must match the units drawn from your lot — this is the link between the results and your goods.
- Method references. Each line should cite the standard and version used, so your own customers or auditors can verify it independently.
- Result against limit. For every substance or property, the measured value sits next to the legal or contractual limit — the distance between those numbers is your safety margin.
- Conclusion per item. Pass or fail is stated per test, not smeared across an overall impression.
- Laboratory identity. The issuing laboratory’s name and credentials appear on the report; the testing itself stays with accredited third-party labs, with our role documented as sampling, witnessing and coordination.
Typical schedules by category
- Textiles and apparel: fibre composition, colour fastness to washing, rubbing and light, restricted azo dyes.
- Electronics: restricted substances (RoHS-style screens), safety-marking checks, battery transport requirements.
- Children’s products: mechanical and physical hazards, chemical limits under the destination market’s toy standard.
- Food contact: migration testing on plastics, silicone, ceramics and metals for the relevant market.
Samples, costs and retests
Test quantities vary widely — one unit may serve a chemical screen, while a destructive mechanical test can consume dozens — so the coordinator confirms per-test quantities when quoting, and the inspector can draw the full set from production in a single visit. Laboratory fees are passed through transparently with our coordination shown separately in the fixed-fee quote; nothing is marked up silently. Keep spare units aside wherever possible, because a failed item needs fresh samples for the retest, and units that have already been through a lab cannot represent the lot twice. Turnaround depends on the schedule: simple chemical screens run in days, full compliance packages take longer and are quoted with real dates rather than optimism.
Testing is one pillar of a wider station: CGF also inspects, stores and reworks, with 95 inspectors across China and a 2,000+ m² Dongguan base behind the laboratory coordination. The about page sets out who we are and what the base does.
Pairing tests with inspections
A passing test on one sample proves the material; an inspection proves the shipment. The strongest programmes run both: compliance testing before or during production, then a final random inspection so the container matches the certificate. See the gate map on the product inspection page and the final gate in detail under pre-shipment inspection.
