Product inspection at CGF is not one service but a set of gates — fixed points in the life of an order where an inspector stands between you and the next irreversible step. Place a gate before the deposit moves and a bad supplier never gets funded. Place one mid-run and a drifting process is corrected while the machines are still warm. Place one before loading and a failed lot never sees the port.
Five gates between deposit and delivery
| Order stage | CGF gate | What can stop the shipment at this gate |
|---|---|---|
| Before mass production starts | Pre-Production Inspection (PPI) | Wrong raw material or colour, unapproved components, missing artwork sign-off, line not staffed or machines not calibrated |
| First 10–20% of units finished | Initial Production Check (IPC) | First articles off-spec against the golden sample, measurement drift, inline QC not operating |
| 20–50% of the run complete | During-Production Inspection (DPI) | Defect rate above your AQL on semi-finished and finished stock, schedule slipping against the ship date |
| Goods finished and 80%+ packed | Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) | AQL fail on the final random sample, quantity short, packing or marking wrong |
| Loading day | Container Loading Supervision (CLS) | Short count, damaged cartons, wet or dirty container, loading stopped for buyer decision |
How the gates talk to each other
The gates are designed as a chain, not as isolated visits. A material concern noted at PPI becomes a named checkpoint in the PSI checklist months later. The measurement table recorded at IPC is the baseline the DPI compares against. The defect catalogue from a failed DPI is exactly what the sorting team works from if the lot needs containment. Because every report uses the same classification language — critical, major, minor — each gate inherits the evidence of the one before it.
This is also why our inspectors work from your documents rather than the factory’s sales pitch: the PO, the spec sheet and the approved sample define the gates; the inspector only records whether reality matches them.
What every gate report contains
- A verdict — pass, fail or pending — stated against the AQL levels you set for the order.
- The sampling basis: lot size, sample size and the acceptance numbers applied.
- Every defect photographed, classified by severity and counted by category.
- Measurements, function-test results and on-site test readings where applicable.
- Production status: how much is finished, how much is packed, and whether the ship date still holds.
- Recommended corrective actions for the factory, written so your supplier cannot claim ambiguity.
English reports are delivered within 24 hours of any gate visit.
What a gate plan needs from you
- The purchase order and packing list — quantities, SKUs, ship window.
- The specification sheet and photos of the approved sample, so the checklist is written against your standard rather than the factory’s.
- Your AQL levels if set; otherwise a proposal is included with the quote.
- Factory address and contact, plus the production schedule as the factory has stated it.
- Any special requirements — destination-market labelling, marketplace prep rules, extra on-site tests.
From these documents the coordinator builds the written checklist used at every gate, so the whole order is judged against one consistent standard from first material to sealed container.
Deciding how many gates your order needs
Low-risk repeat orders from a proven factory often justify only the final gate. New suppliers, first-time products, children’s items, electronics and any order where a defect would be expensive to pull back from the market deserve the earlier gates as well. If you are unsure, our coordinators will suggest a gate plan from your product category and order history — and you can read how each visit runs in detail on the pages for pre-shipment inspection, during-production inspection and pre-production inspection.
One more thing separates a gate plan from a rescue plan: when a gate fails, the next step is already inside the same company. CGF’s Dongguan base takes in failed lots for rework, re-inspection and re-packing, so a red verdict can turn into a shippable batch without finding a new vendor — see rework, assembly and warehousing.
